Windhoek on the move: new Hilton hotel, new air route and urban projects

Hilton Garden Inn makes its debut in Namibia

The opening of the Hilton Garden Inn Windhoek marks a turning point for Namibian hospitality. With its 174 rooms, this property represents the very first Hilton-branded establishment in the country. Strategically located in the capital, the hotel meets growing demand for internationally standardised accommodation, both for business travellers and tourists in transit from Hosea Kutako Airport.

The hotel features the signature Garden Inn amenities: restaurant, fitness centre, conference rooms and high-speed Wi-Fi. Its opening sends a strong signal to international investors and confirms Namibia's tourism potential on the world stage. For travellers, it means an additional reliable accommodation option just minutes from Windhoek's city centre.

Proflight Zambia connects Windhoek to Zambia

On March 3, 2026, Proflight Zambia inaugurated its new air route linking Lusaka to Windhoek via Livingstone. This direct connection between Zambia and Namibia fills a gap in the southern African regional air network. Travellers can now easily combine Victoria Falls with Namibian landscapes, paving the way for attractive cross-border tourism itineraries.

This new air route is particularly significant in a context where air connectivity remains one of Namibian tourism's main challenges. Every new route landing at Windhoek Airport helps unlock the country's tourism potential and improve access for international visitors.

Urban projects: Alte Feste and Hop'n'Go2 shuttle

Windhoek continues its urban transformation with two landmark projects. The renovation of the Alte Feste, the city's oldest fortress dating from the German colonial era, is progressing to give new life to this historic monument. The site is set to become a major cultural space, enhancing the tourism appeal of the city centre.

Meanwhile, the Hop'n'Go2 tourist shuttle has been deployed to make it easier for visitors to travel between the capital's main points of interest. This hop-on hop-off transport service allows tourists freshly arrived from the airport to explore Windhoek without the constraints of car hire. These initiatives demonstrate the city's ambition to position itself as a genuine urban destination rather than merely a stopover on the way to the national parks.
